IPA Institute - Advancing Project Knowledge

William Bowman
Manager of APAC E&P Business Dev., IPA Australia

William joined IPA in August 2001 and currently serves as Senior Project Analyst, Upstream (Exploration and Production). During his time at IPA, William has benchmarked the cost and schedule performance for over 90 projects against Industry and the best companies for various upstream and downstream companies, including several megaprojects and FPSO field developments. He has benchmarked from a whole asset prospective, namely reservoir, well construction, and facilities. His reservoir analyses have varied from simple tank-type depletion gas reservoirs to highly complex compartmentalized oil reservoirs and he has evaluated several different well construction techniques, varying from simple straight open-hole completions to innovative extended reach wells. He has also benchmarked many different concept types, including subsea tie-backs, steel-piled jackets, floaters, GBSs, and pipelines.

Prior to IPA, William served as a pipeline engineer primarily on offshore pipeline projects. He also led the field and R&D engineering for a Norwegian oil and gas service company specializing in the sampling and analysis of hydrocarbon fluids during exploration evaluation and production. In addition, he helped oil and gas companies optimize exploration goals and outcomes by acquiring good quality reservoir data and providing advice so that these goals could be achieved. Although he focused primarily on the Australian region, he has also worked off West Africa, throughout Asia, and the North Sea.

William holds a Graduate Diploma in Corporate Finance from the Australian Securities Institute. In addition, he holds a Ph.D. degree in Mechanical Engineering and a B.S. degree in Mechanical Engineering (Honors) from the University of Western Australian. He is a member of the Australian Institute of Professional Engineers.
